Paddle Tennis Court

Paddle Tennis Court

Unlike a traditional tennis court, the playing area for padel is significantly smaller. It is enclosed by glass walls and metal mesh, which are integral to the gameplay. The sport is contested by four players, and the ball can be played off these surfaces, akin to squash, thereby adding an extra tactical dimension. The surface is typically artificial turf, which ensures a uniform ball speed throughout the rally.

Installation Requirements

Adequate space and dimensions
The court requires a rectangular playing area with specific measurements, plus additional clearance around the perimeter for safety and movement. A standard padel court is 20m long and 10m wide, enclosed by walls and fencing.

High-quality artificial turf
The playing surface must be covered with artificial grass designed specifically for paddle. This turf needs to be consistent in texture, allow for proper ball bounce, and often include a layer of sand infill to regulate the speed of play.

Strong perimeter enclosure
The structure must be enclosed with a combination of glass panels and metallic mesh. The glass (usually tempered) is placed at the back walls for visibility, while the metal mesh on the sides must withstand repeated ball strikes and provide a consistent rebound.

Appropriate lighting system
Proper illumination is essential for visibility and evening play. The lights must be positioned high enough (typically above 6m) and angled correctly to ensure uniform brightness across the court without creating glare for the players.

Maintenance Guide

Court Dimensions
Padel courts are significantly smaller than tennis courts. A standard padel court is about one-third the size of a tennis court (20m x 10m compared to 23.77m x 10.97m for singles tennis), which leads to a faster, more reactive style of play with less ground to cover.

Enclosed Playing Area
Unlike open tennis courts, padel courts are enclosed by mesh or glass walls and fences. These surfaces are a legal part of the game, allowing players to play the ball off them similar to squash, which adds a strategic depth not found in traditional tennis.

Surface & Ball Bounce
Padel is always played on an artificial grass surface, whereas tennis is played on a variety of surfaces (clay, grass, hard court). Furthermore, a padel ball has less pressure than a tennis ball, resulting in lower bounce and a slower pace overall, favoring control over power.

Serving Technique
The serving motion differs greatly between the two sports. In tennis, players serve overhead with a full swinging motion. In padel, the serve must be underhand, with the ball struck at or below waist level after bouncing it on the ground, making the start of the point much less aggressive.
